Pre-Conference

* The deadline has passed.

Dear SEAA-SNU Anthropology 2025 Conference Graduate Student Participants,

You are warmly invited to the Pre-Conference, which will take place on Sunday, July 13th, at Seoul National University.

The Pre-Conference is designed for graduate students to connect and build networks with colleagues in a welcoming academic environment.

This event will run for half a day, from 1:00 PM to 5:15 PM. We encourage you to join us for an afternoon of learning and socializing with fellow graduate students from many parts of the world.

Here is our schedule:

  • 1:00: Workshop on oral presentation, "Putting Your Best Face Forward," led by Dr. Christine Yano
  • 2:30: Registration
  • 3:00 - 4:00: Socializing with other graduate students 1 (Grouped by Research Regions)
  • 4:15 - 5:15: Socializing with graduate students 2 (Grouped by Theoretical Themes)
  • 5:30: Dinner (All participants)

Workshop on oral presentation, "Putting Your Best Face Forward"

You've done the research and analysis. You have written your results in a well-organized conference paper. But how to put your best face forward in order to communicate effectively with your audience? In this workshop, Dr. Christine Yano will cover the art of oral presentation in an academic setting. The workshop will be hands on with participants gaining practical skills and on-the-spot critique. Participants are asked to bring in one brief paragraph (3-4 sentences) of an academic paper that they will read at the workshop.

- Length:  2 hours

- Number of active participants:  7

Note: Due to the highly interactive nature of the workshop, numbers will be limited to 7 active participants. The first seven slots will be reserved for these. However, if there is demand, other people may attend the workshop in a reduced participatory capacity.

Socializing Events

The socializing event will be divided into two sessions where you will be able to have casual conversations in small groups of fellow students with similar research interests. The first session will be divided based on geographic regions, and the second on theoretical themes of your research. You will introduce yourself to other participants in your group and discuss your research and any other struggles, concerns, or successes you may wish to share in regard to your graduate study. Once sessions are over, we hope you continue your conversations at dinner together. All participants are invited to the dinner. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity to get to know your wonderful colleagues from all over the world!

To apply for the Pre-Conference, please complete the Google Form sent via email by April 1st. The information you provide will help us organize small groups for more meaningful and effective networking opportunities. Acceptance notifications will be sent by April 15th.

Also, there will be a separate Google Form to apply for the workshop in a few days. The workshop will have a limited number of participants. The first seven students will be interactive workshop participants, while those who sign up afterward will attend as audience members.

We look forward to welcoming you to Seoul on July 13th.

Best regards,

SEAA-SNU Pre-Conference Committee
